Biography
Steven Trout is a Professor of English at the University of Alabama and the editor of the book series “War, Memory, and Culture,” published by the University of Alabama Press. His books include The Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Angel Fire: War, Remembrance, and an American Tragedy (2020), On the Battlefield of Memory: The First World War and American Remembrance, 1919-1941 (2010), Memorial Fictions: Willa Cather and the First World War (2002), and Serpents of War: An American Officer's Story of World War I Combat and Captivity (2023, co-edited with Ian Isherwood). His articles have appeared in a wide range of journals, including First World War Studies, Mississippi Quarterly, Twentieth Century Literature, American Literary Realism, and Studies in Short Fiction. Trout is currently completing a monograph titled Remember the Tuscania!: History, Memory, and the Deadliest U-Boat Attack on Americans in World War I and co-editing (with Jennifer James) a collection of essays focused on cultural representations of African American war experience.
