Biography
Bernard F. Harris Jr. received his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in Adult Learning and Leadership. His research focuses on leadership, adult education, and African American military history from 1776 to 1920. His dissertation, a historical research study combining adult education with military history, titled “The Education and Training of Seven African American U.S. Army Officers for World War I and Its Aftermath,” was selected for preservation in the U.S. Army Center of Military History collection at Fort McNair in Washington, D.C. His latest published works include a co-authored article, “Leader Presence and Its Impact on Organizational Climate,” in the Journal of Military Learning (Army University Press, 2023); an article about Western University, the only HBCU to operate in the state of Kansas from 1881 to 1943, titled, “A Contribution to Victory: Western University’s Vocational Training Program for World War I” in the Kansas History: A Journal of the Central Plains (Volume 47, Number 3 | Autumn 2024), and another co-authored article, “Empathy: An Imperative Leader Attribute,” in the Army Civilian Professional Journal (2025). He currently works for the Center for U.S. Army Leadership, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
