Fostering Humanity in Middle Grades: Applications of Daisaku Ikeda Children’s Stories in Social Studies

by Juan Walker and Nai-Cheng Kuo

Abstract

The article aims to provide examples for social studies educators to use Ikeda children's videos in social studies. By integrating fictional children storytelling resources with nonfictional accounts for primary source analysis, educators can deepen the meaning of learning, engaging students in intellectually stimulating social and historical inquiry. Social studies educators play a crucial role in fostering young learners' humanity, respecting the dignity of life, and sharing our struggles with others. This act of sharing struggles is not just valuable, but also a way to connect and feel part of a larger community.
